Every book plays a movie in the reader’s mind, but this one is especially clear, with a mesmerizing flow that carries the reader along to its exceptionally satisfying conclusion. I only finished the book because I was hoping by the end I would learn jxne about the planet than the meager amount of information the author doled out. Some were just annoying. The master deliberately miscounted so Jakkin would have a chance to prove what a great trainer he was. In the morning, Jakkin and Akki are reborn out of the dragon blood, and became the first real human Austarians, linked to each other and Heart’s Blood’s five hatchlings.

He eventually succeeds after having been badly injured during the day’s work, as one of the hatchling dragons was “miscounted”, thus no one would notice if it was missing, though it is eventually revealed that Sarkkhan drabon purposely given him the opportunity to steal the hatchling, knowing that Jakkin was literate and could read the breeder’s chart posted on the door.

Because of this, many of the issues felt diluted or too easily solved. Maybe some of these questions are answered in the following books, but honestly the author did such a poor job exploring her own world in this book that I just don’t care. Is it OK for kids to read books outside their reading levels? Akki, a girl at the nursery, eventually discovers his secret, and helps him, building a strong relationship in the process.

Parents need to know that there are some sexual references, and that the intense scenes of dragon fighting may be too much for sensitive children. I found this a quick, engrossing read. I’m curious to see if my other Jane Yolen books are written similarly. It’s pretty obvious The tripogy and -training parts are as good as I remembered, but there’s an undercurrent of cringe-worthy misogyny: While the elite live decent lives, the entire res of the population lives in poverty, attempting to buy their way out of servitude.
We learn all the moves Jakkin teaches his dragon, but in name only. I’m going to keep this short.

I actually bought this book for its nostalgic value. The humans are divided into free and “bond”, where the bonded people Another reread of a book I remembered enjoying in my youth. There is a bit of a wowser of a deus ex machina near the end, but the actual end of the novel is pretty sweet. But that’s just me. This was one of the last books I read in middle school I was working through the library alphabetically: Dragon’s Heart was released on May 4, Recommended to Adrianna by: The star rating reflects overall quality and learning potential.
